Minor defects: Insect bites, light scratches, folds, stains or cosmetic defects that remain on the surface and do not weaken the skin.
Major defects: Holes or scratches that can go through the leather.
This leather is special because there are several types of leather within a skin:
- center with scales, it is the ostrich tibia (the scales at the top can come off, you can use leather glue to secure them to the leather)
- side (small grains), it is the ostrich leg
- high and low, more or less firm grains.
This leather is mainly used to decorate small leather goods (wallets, card holders, purses, etc.), pouches, watch straps or jewelry (pendants, bracelets, earrings).
It is necessary to favor small touches of material inclusion and to associate it with another leather (calf or goat) in order to create contrasts and highlight the ostrich leg leather.
