The backset is made of leather made up of the collar and the croupon, which allows for long lengths of straps. (see diagram)
Niagara leather is nourished by immersion in a vat of tallow (a mixture of paraffin and beef fat), and is called “tallow leather”. This tallow bath gives the leather better water resistance, gives it nourishment over a long period and makes cutting and working with the leather easier. Suede leather is recommended for outdoor use.
Tallow allows for maintenance-free leather since the grease is constantly applied to the surface of the leather, giving it the necessary nourishment and an excellent patina. Thanks to this nourishment, Niagara saddle leather has advanced resistance in outdoor use, it will reject any external disturbance (water / saline environment). This saddle leather is therefore suitable for intensive use such as for the equestrian sector. The aniline finish allows the dyed leather to keep its natural appearance.
Uses of the stained Niagara backrest leather strap:
The Niagara dosset dyed leather strap can be used in leather goods, particularly when you need long lengths of leather: belts, bag handles, bracelets, watch straps, collars for dogs and cats, etc.
It is the leather most used for making belts thanks to its natural finish, its resistance to elongation and its nourishment allowing it to guarantee a long lifespan.
It can also be used for harness parts: halters, nets, harnesses, bridle reins, headpieces, uprights, browbands, nosebands, lunges, under-throats, and straps.
The edges of Niagara saddle leather can be finished with edge dye.
Pushing work on our Niagara leather is not recommended, because with its nourishment in a grease bath, the leather will return to its natural thickness, and the pushed patterns will fade over time.
Care instructions for tinted Niagara backset leather straps:
For the maintenance of Niagara saddle leather, thanks to the tallow bath food, the fat is impregnated throughout the thickness of the Niagara saddle leather, so there is no need for food over time. Food can be applied to the flower to ensure its oily appearance or accelerate the patina of the leather. This care of the flower ensures a longer lifespan. Our Niagara saddle leather will resist humidity. Just let them dry at room temperature for it to regain its appearance. Due to its food in a tallow bath (fat), on temperature shocks, a whitish film of rising paraffin can form. Just rub it to make it disappear.
