LEATHER MARKING FORMOIR
A former is the essential tool if you want to work with natural vegetable tanned leather .
This excellent former is made by Jérôme David in France. The type of wood used is French boxwood from sustainable PEFC-certified forests.
Boxwood was chosen by our ancestors to make this tool because it is one of the hardest woods and thus allows you to mark the leather without wearing out. It will acquire a patina over time and thus become your favorite tool.
The use of the former allows you to mark a line on the edge of the leather, either to make a decoration or to make a line thus allowing you to then make a straight seam .
In addition, the small groove pushed back helps guide the sewing thread. To drown the seam in order to protect it from possible friction, it is recommended to use a furrow which will remove material by digging a small groove.

This tool, the boxwood has four notches that allow you to make four different shaping lines. Each shaping line has an identical thickness (about 1 mm) but it is the space between the edge of the leather and the line that changes. This tool allows you to make a line 1.8 - 2.2 - 2.7 and 3.3 mm from the edge.
To create a decorative line, you can make a double line by making a line at 1.8 mm then another at 2.7 mm.
