Striking claws are used to mark the interval between the stitches on the leather in order to have nice even seams.
Tips for use :
- Use a self-healing mat or an ERTALON plate as a cutting support.
- Your claw must be vertical when you strike.
- Strike with a wooden or polymer mallet. Do not use a steel hammer.
Each stitch is 1.5mm wide
Total length of tool: 9.5 cm
Hardened steel blade
Information : Also available in a 1-tooth precision striking claw (Ref. TA110).

What spacing should I choose for my creation ?
The center distance is the distance between two points: it must be chosen according to the item you wish to create (aesthetic choice).
The different center distance / wire diameter combinations give different aesthetic results: the choice is yours!
Table given for information purposes only:
leather item | Total leather thickness | center distance | Wire diameter |
Small item (e.g. binding, small leather goods) | Max. 2.5mm | 2.5 to 3.38mm | 0.30 to 0.53 mm |
Medium item (e.g. leather goods) | Max. 4mm | 3.38 to 3.85mm | 0.54 to 0.70mm |
Large item (e.g. furnishings, saddlery, luggage) | Max. 7mm | 4 to 6.75mm | 0.76 to 1.30 mm |
